  • If you have any questions, of course you can always ask any adult or student member. We will announce the board members at the first rodeo and that list will be posted on our website and Facebook page.

  • Announcements on Facebook. Information about members, rodeo schedule, call in reminders, updates and/or announcements pertaining to AKHSRA.

  • Student members are required to submit a $200.00 minimum sponsorship. Each sponsorship goes towards awards and fees. Additional sponsors can go towards individual student accounts or the association for arena fees, fundraising fees, stock fees, etc., in addition to membership fees

  • Season typically runs from May/June-September. We do try to have playdates, clinics, fundraising, and monthly meetings/get togethers to keep the team active all year round.

  • AKHSRA most often partners with other rodeo associations. Those rodeo associations are Soldotna Equestrian Association (SEA), Ninilchik Rodeo, and Rodeo Alaska. AKHSRA will sometimes have finals on their own as well as occasional fundraiser play dates if the schedule allows it. Entries will be taken by both the partnered rodeo association and AKHSRA.

  • Yes. We partner with Rodeo Alaska, Soldotna equestrian association, and Ninilchik Rodeo.

  • We sanction as many rodeos as we can since our season is short. There are no rodeos for AKHSRA members while nationals are going on even if there are other Alaska Rodeos going on, if you are not attending nationals you may enter other rodeos but there will be no points awarded for High or Jr High school rodeo members.

  • Rodeo schedule is based on partner rodeo associations. Typically, the schedule is announced in the spring. AKHSRA will announce which partner rodeo we will sanction once all the associations have announced their season dates. Look for the schedule to be posted on the website and Facebook!

  • Barrels, poles, goat tying, breakaway, chute dogging, team roping, bull riding, steer riding will typically take place on Saturday while Cutting and Reined cow horse take place Sunday.

  • Will be announced on the SEA, Ninilchik PHA, Rodeo Alaska, 907 Barrel Racers websites.

  • Entry fees for AKHSRA is based on which events you enter for high school as well as entry fees for the partner rodeo association. Most rodeo associations require each student to enter into at their regular events to run any or all of the AKHSRA events. Entry fees must be paid to both the partner rodeo and AKHSRA as they are different associations. Each association will have entry calls ins typically the Monday or Tuesday before the weekend of that Rodeo. Most entries can be paid Friday evening or Saturday mornings at the rodeo grounds near or at the announcer stand. AKHSRA can accept entries those same days in person by cash, check, or by Venmo. You will need to make sure to contact both for your entry.

  • Draw is announced on the partner rodeo draw sheet. Reined cow horse and cutting will be announced the morning of.

  • You run once, time counts for both the rodeo and AKHSRA.

  • We use a point system for all events. The points are tracked and announced on Facebook after each rodeo and then tallied up at the end of the year after finals and will determine which students qualify for the following summer nationals. Since you enter events with the partner rodeo, you do have a chance to win a payout from your entry into that rodeo association. Also, when we host fundraising events those will typically have a payout.

  • All sites have water hoses for the horses. SEA and Ninilchik offer stalls which must be reserved at call-ins. There is no sewer or power for RV’s or LQ trailers so you will want to bring a generator if needed.

  • Rodeo Alaska charges camping fees during the Memorial rodeo and Palmer Fair rodeo. Be sure to check the call in schedule when it’s posted regarding any parking/camping fees.

  • Most members stay on site in campers, horse trailers, or tents. Some members may decide to rent nearby. Most members will travel with panels to keep horses at their trailer. If available, there is limited stall rentals at Soldotna and Ninilchik grounds. When you do Rodeo call ins to enter you will need to let the person know you want a stall and how many you need.

  • Typically, finals are done the first part of September after the state fair and is a 2 go event. It will be announced on Facebook and listed on the AKHSRA sanctioned rodeo schedule

  • End of year awards typically happens late winter or early spring to allow for time to order personalized awards and time to prepare and plan awards banquet.
